The anniversary of Gun-Hee's death was yesterday. We did the tour of Fenway Park, but didn't get to go on the field. So I sprinkled some of his ashes from the top of the Green Monster.


This is where I dropped his ashes. I learned from this tour that, after Fenway's 100th birthday in 2012, no changes will be able to be made because it will become a historical landmark. They replaced the field and warning track before the 2005 season.

Gun-Hee's ashes will be there for a really long time. So every time I watch a game, I can look at the Green Monster and remember Gun-Hee.

It's taken me a long time to edit and post this video. It's the last time Gun-Hee went outside. It rained that last week after he was diagnosed with FIP and before he died. But Wednesday, June 25th, was nice enough to take him out into the courtyard of our building.

It's very sad, and the Pernice Brothers' song is sad, too.

Sherry, Gun-Hee's breeder, called me on Friday to let me know that her girl, Catalina had just had kittens last Tuesday. Three kittens, she thinks two are boys and one is a girl. But here's the thing: they're Scar's kittens. He'd bred with Catalina before he died, but Sherry didn't think Catalina got pregnant. Catalina also didn't show for a really long time, and Sherry didn't realise she was pregnant until a couple of weeks ago.

I want one of those boys so bad. I want to name him Jacoby and he could be Angel's BFF.

Yesterday, Gun-Hee's breeder Sherry called me.

Gun-Hee's father, Pellburn Scarface Cat Pacino, aka Scar, died two weeks ago. He accidentally got outside and was hit by a car.

So now, Gun-Hee, his brother Rusty, their mother Amber and their father Scar are all dead within the space of a year. And I'm sad because we always said maybe we would adopt another of Scar's sons someday. Now we never can. He was only 3½ years old, a little older than Kylie.

The whole family, apart from Gun-Hee's two sisters and Uncle Whitey...gone.

December 15th is Gun-Hee day. That was the day we got him.

I can't believe it's been almost 6 months since he died.

His brother, Rusty, also died from FIP on October 10. Their mother, Amber, also passed away shortly after. The cause of her death is not known; last I heard they were doing an autopsy to find that out. It was very sudden.

So much sadness in the little cat family.

I miss him every day. He was my little buddy.

I know I stopped the "Gun-Hee a Day" project 50 days short. I truly intended to finish it, but the truth is...I got to the point where I wasn't sure if I was posting new photos or repeats...and since there's no way to take new photos, I just stopped. When I started the project, it was beyond comprehension that he wouldn't be alive at the end of the year.

I meant to post this last month, but somehow it got missed. Rusty, Gun-Hee's brother, made it to his second birthday!




Woohoo!!! As of today, Rusty is considered a “long term FIP survivor” (according to FIP research studies by the Winn Feline Foundation). He has survived past the 3 month mark since signs of FIP (primarily the widening of the abdomen due to fluid) were first noticed on June 28.

It looks like all of the abdominal fluid has dissipated, although I think he still has some fluid in the chest cavity which causes him to cough up mucous on a daily basis. Hopefully that will all be gone soon too.

Rusty still needs some muscle and weight put back on him, but he continues to enjoy time hanging out with the other cats in the house and in our secured backyard. He can still jump up onto the counter when he smells something good cooking, and he can still put the chase to another cat, or squirrel, when so inclined :-)

For his celebration dinner he enjoyed wild Pacific red salmon with organic brown and wild rice and organic cauliflower, and some T-Bone steak as an added treat, which he especially liked! One of the attached pictures was just taken of Rusty lounging on his new couch I just got for him yesterday. The outdoor photo was taken on September 14.

Of course, our goal is for Rusty to be a “really, really, really long term survivor” and we are working hard to get that miracle. The memory of his brother Gun-Hee, who went to the Rainbow Bridge on June 28 because of FIP, motivates us to beat this!

Between a trip to California and a nasty cold, I've missed doing the Gun-Hee a Day.
